STEM ACTIVITY DAY PROGRAM - FURTHER DETAILS

STEM Activity Day will take place on November 14, 2009 at the Baldor Campus in Greenville from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Hosted by the Society of Women Engineers and the GE Women’s Network, Girl Scout Juniors are invited to come and work with female engineering professionals to learn about science and engineering. Girls will build a weather station and make an electronic matching game. T-shirt, patch and box lunch included with $7.00 registration fee. TOWN HALL MEETINGS

These meetings are informal information sessions open to all volunteers and hosted by our Girl Scout council’s Chair of the Board and President/CEO. Suggestions for the October Town Hall Meeting Agenda are due by Wednesday, September 30. To help the meeting organizers know what you’d like to hear about or talk about, send your input to Townhalls.

COACHES & MENTORS NEEDED FOR ALL-GIRL LEGO TEAM(S)

Team coaches and mentors from across the council will work side by side with our LEGO teams to build self-confidence, knowledge and life skills while motivating girls to pursue opportunities in science, technology and engineering. They will have varied backgrounds, but all will share in the commitment to inspire young people and foster an appreciation of science and technology. Coaches will work directly with the girls throughout the year. Mentors will help teams on a more episodic schedule. Training and support will be provided. CALLING ALL BABYSITTING INSTRUCTORS

Mountains to Midlands council is looking for qualified Red Cross instructors to inspire and guide girls in grades 6 through 10 to be capable entrepreneurs using the Red Cross Babysitter method. Additionally, we are looking for adults who are interested in taking the Red Cross training to become a certified Babysitting Instructor. This is an opportunity to make a difference. OUTDOOR ADVENTURE INTEREST GROUP

Life is a daring adventure, so be a part of the fun and excitement! The first meeting for the Outdoor Adventure Interest Group (OAIG) will take place December 6 at the Clinton Hut. This first meeting is intended to be an informational/planning meeting. During this time we will discuss the first outing and girls will determine how often and where they would like to meet. Additional meetings will be held in various locations in the council. Depending on the outdoor activities the girls choose, some activities will take place outside of the council area. There is no cost to attend this meeting; the fee to join the Interest Group is $10/girl and $5/adult. This group is for girls in grades 6 through 10. Non-Girl Scouts are welcome to attend the meeting and learn what this group is all about, so invite your friends: Sunday, December 6 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Clinton Hut in Clinton, SC. Questions? ANNUAL MEETING & ADULT RECOGNITIONS

Saturday, November 14, 2009 is the Annual Business Meeting and Adult Recognitions for Girl Scouts of South Carolina-Mountains to Midlands. The meeting will be held at Piedmont Technical College in Newberry. This is the Fall Delegate Governance Meeting for the council. As determined through last year’s By-laws revisions, this meeting is now held every fall after the close of the fiscal year. While this is a business meeting of the delegation, it is open to any adult or girl member 14 years of age or older. The standing agenda includes the state of the council, the fiscal report, presentation and election of the slate for the Board of Directors, and the presentation of awards to adults receiving Girl Scouts of the USA recognitions.
The Agenda for the meeting includes:

9:00-9:30 Registration for Delegates
9:30-10:00 Elected Delegates with Board of Directors: Informal Forum & Discussion Groups on Key Issues
10:00-10:25 Registration for Visitors/Brunch/Meet the Nominees to the Board of Directors
10:30-12:00 Annual Business Meeting and Adult Recognitions

LEGO ROBOTICS TEAMS FORMING
